So much had happened to me last week. There was our school’s Christmas play and the white water rafting last Saturday. No wonder, I slept till noon today and had a slight fever yesterday afternoon yet still went on with my day as if everything’s fine. Oh well.. Vacation days, no more forcing myself out of bed early in the morning till next year, no more morning rituals, no more books to check and papers to check, etc. Yet there’ll be music every night, the same music played over and over. But at least I had a break from work.

Christmas play. They were unbelievable. My kids each had two presentations. The other one being the handmime which we practiced for about a month. Their other presentation they did with other kids from the other classes. There was only 1 intermission between the last presentation before their handmime and things are still to be prepared. Masks had to be put on for the first time, their gloves had to be properly fixed and with those kids, they still had trouble putting those on. I’m so glad their parents were also supportive, they dressed up their children quickly and without a cue drew to the stage to sit on their places. Upon their presentation, I was all praises. They remembered all their actions, I need not remind them what action comes after what and so on. They were so attentive and alert. I was so proud of them. They said it was beautiful. I say, those kids were the best, not because of my effort, but because they gave their all for that last presentation of the night. I even had one kid who courageously presented even if she had a fever and eaten nothing for lunch. She even vomit once in her chair after their opening song. Poor girl. Yet she bravely stood on the stage to do her dance and the handmime.

White water rafting. Capped the week with an adventure. Was not really excited like Mari though it was my first time. Didn’t expect much, didn’t expect to be thrown out of the raft, and was confident that there’s nothing to be scared about. Maybe because I was confident that our guides will take care of us and because we have our vest and helmets on. True enough. The 5-hour white water rafting was so much fun. At least no paddling in the air for me. Though I sat at one point when I stood while going along with a class 1 rapid, Kevinski leaned so much at me that it would have been difficult to have a foot-hold on my right legs as I could have been thrown down. But it was fun. Really. There were instances also that we can jump from our raft and swim in the clean river. Somehow my swimming skills was put to use when we jumped from the raft and went along the rapid beside a cliff. It was exciting because I had to pull my younger bro so he could face towards the flow of the water. Upon reaching the rock, I had to delay springing back or else I could have hit my younger sister. Opted to touch the rock instead before springing back upon seeing that no one’s behind me. Glad I had no bruises on my palm, only red marks, the rocks were a bit sharp. Hence, I loose my hold on my younger sister rendering her to be swept with the current and away from us the other raft had to paddle to her to rescue her. While shouting instructions of  ‘back float, frog-kick’  to my sister, I was looking back at my younger bro who seemed to be stuck on the rock. Was getting worried what happened to him, until he pulled himself out of the rocks with Kevinski and Mari. Then there were those funny moments in our raft where we faked throwing a rope to our sister’s lap. Good thing she didn’t stood and jumped from the raft. Hehe.. Then there was the bump my sister and Marmie had while they stood and we had a head-on collision with a rock. Good thing they were not tall or else they could have been thrown out of our raft with that collision. On the other raft, we could hear their shouts when they go through a class 2 and 3 rapid. An indication that they were enjoying. Hehe.. Few chit-chats and chow-chow here and there. Then it was over. I really had fun. Gonna do that next time. But I wish to do the advance type, more challenging and longer.

This week. So far, so good. Thankful that I could have some rest. Thankful that I could spend more time at home, tidying up the mess in my room. Thankful that I could spend more time with the people I prefer to be with and make music as much as I want to. Thankful for the gift of employment hence my Christmas gift to my brothers and sister. Hehe.. Not to say, last Saturday was my first time to taste Sushi, it was delicious.

It was a long weekend and a break from work. It also meant a break for the students and employees like me. So Kevinski and company planned to have another movie marathon at their place, as usual. But this time, it was planned and the other youths were also invited. More than 10 came and was a handful bunch. After 3 movies, 1 horror, 1 suspense and 1 feel-good movie, we were on our bed dreaming that the weekend won’t end. Hehe..

Morning came, while we were preparing to leave the place, faces were obviously sad to end the activity. Out of the blue, I forgot who proposed it, was it me or Kevinski, that we’d go river trekking at the nearby river, which was actually CDO’s main river. We prepared a bottle of water each, no wearing of shoes, no bags and other important paraphernalia. then off we go along the road to the farther part of Balulang which I had been to only once long time ago. We trekked the same river before, about 10 years ago with Kevinski’s dad and others. Okay.. We were excited to cross the hanging bridge which was a bit challenging with Mari in front of me. After which, decided to go on with the trail which prodded us to go the other, little way when a man with a hunting gun stepped out. It was an adventure that led us to another street which connected to a low bridge that when its high tide, the water would flow above it. Followed the road up a hill when Kevinski and company decided to climb a small passageway up a steep slope where we could see a cream-painted house. We were literally climbing up a slope where we could see the mountain opposite Balulang (so green with trees), the city from afar, the glistening blue sea beyond the buildings and where we had hiked earlier. Savoring the view in every stop. Not knowing, there’s a much better view ahead, much breath-taking, which in fact is a road in a village I had just known, Xavier Ville. Only 2 houses were occupied, the rest were still on-construction. It is in the upper-part of Balulang. A mother and her child passed us and asked where we were going. Actually, we were going nowhere at this point, just for the sake of bonding, adventure, and where our feet could carry us under the scorching heat of the noon sun. She informed us that up ahead is the Taguanao bridge. As adventurers and wanderers, we were excited and made it our new destination, where it’ll lead, whatever it takes. So off we go. Passing by the last place of Balulang, we asked residences which fork of the road leads to Taguanao. They politely answered us with a warning that it’s too far. Yet, as if nothing was heard or was it just being determined to reach our destination, we moved on even without further knowledge on what awaits us and how far our destination is. The sight of the bridge on our left was an encouragement. It was not long that we reached our destination. Now what? Should we go back on our tracks or go on and continue our hiking to Taguanao where we could get a ride to the city, then ride a multicab back to Balulang. Not to mention, it was already past 1pm and we hadn’t had lunch yet. I was glad no one complained and everyone we’re energized and excited to finish our adventure. It was not my first time to hike from Balulang to Taguanao, yet the trail was different. There was yet no bridge at that time, we had to cross the big river by banka. It was their first time to pass those trails and step onto Taguanao. Some even suggested that we continue walking to the city from Taguanao. Knowing the place, as Taguanao had been my swimming team’s favorite destination, I begged not to for the fact that we might arrive at the city late in the afternoon, with no food and unprepared energy. Glad they agreed to take the jeepney back to the city. And it was then that they realized it was really far.

It was by far a great adventure. Not to mention, it was not costly. It is one of those that I can wear on my sleeves. Though they were dead tired when they reached their homes, I’m glad they enjoyed it. Hoping that it would be etched in their memory and the enjoyment and bonding be etched in their hearts. For the first-timers, it was by far unforgettable. For some, it was their longest walk. yet, nothing beats the bonding, excitement and smiles we had even if the heat was pounding hard on us. Thank you guys. Let’s do this again someday.
