Oh yeah. What could happen to our country now? What would happen to Filipino workers in other countries after the Monday hostage drama? As Mr. Chan puts it, it could happen to any country. Definitely, it could happen to anybody, anywhere, anytime. Anyone could have a different reaction. Any police could have responded on the scene and respond differently. Even though the police or any other defense authority did their job, they were still criticized by people whose butt were glued to their chair during that night. I was one of them. Being a crime scene investigation tv series fan, I too have my share of what-ifs and what-could-haves based on those things I’ve watched. Thinking while watching the action unfold in the tube is different from thinking while letting your guards up because bullets were being fired over your head. They may be sworn to that duty, but bear with them people. They also have fears and concerns. We can’t ask them to be robots and just follow the directions being directed on them without hesitation or any thought of what would happen. Humans like you and me. It was just unfortunate that the hostages were killed during the ordeal.

Then the country had the major, major event in the pageantry. Like I’ve said, human as we are, we do make mistakes. In Miss Raj’s case, she must have been overwhelmed at the pedestal she was on and got excited, over excited that it affected her intellectual response. Anyone could be in her position and responded differently, again. Or, for some of the contestants on that stage, they responded the way we expected them to. It could happen to us sometimes. We walk on the street or just stand on the sidewalk when out of the blue a colleague passes by and calls us from his or her vehicle, shouting our name. What could your possible response be? Will you shout and say the person’s name or be speechless and freeze? We put high expectations on Ms. Raj that we were frustrated when she didn’t perform the way we wanted her to. What’s bad is that the public focused too much on her response, forgetting that she had conquered something else. Being a Philippine representative to a prestigious pageant, rarely does our ladies reach to that level. Accept it readers, we ought to understand the lady and congratulate her for accepting everything gracefully.
